Alternative Names

Reelin (RELN) [5] is a secreted large extracellular matrix glycoprotein that can help regulate neuronal migration and localization in the developing brain by controlling cell-cell interactions. In addition to playing an important role in early development; Reelin also continues to play a role in the adult brain. [6] It regulates synaptic plasticity by enhancing the induction and maintenance of long-term potentiation. [7] [8] It also stimulates the development of dendrites [9] and dendritic spines [10] and regulates the continued migration of neuroblasts produced in adult neurogenesis sites (such as the subventricular and subgranular regions). It is found not only in the brain; but also in the liver; thyroid; adrenal glands; fallopian tubes; and breasts; and is also low in a range of anatomical regions. [11]
