Description
Neurofilaments are 10nm or intermediate filament proteins that are specifically found in neurons. They are mainly composed of three main proteins called NF-L, NF-M and NF-H, but they may also include other filament proteins. The main function of nerve filaments may be to control the diameter of large axons (1). NF-L is a neurofilament light or low molecular weight peptide. It runs on a 68-70kDa SDS-PAGE gel. There are some differences between different species. NF-L antibodies (such as MCA-DA2) can be used to identify neuronal cells and their processes in cell culture and slicing materials.
