Description
Neurofilament is a 10nm or intermediate filament protein that is specifically found in neurons. It is mainly composed of three main proteins called NF-L, NF-M and NF-H. NF-M is a neurofilament polypeptide with a molecular weight or a medium molecular weight. It runs at 145-160kDa on an SDS-PAGE gel. It has some species variability, but the actual molecular weight is about 105kDa. The main function of nerve filaments may be to control the diameter of large axons (1). NF-M antibodies (such as MCA-3H11) can be used to identify neuronal cells and their processes in tissue sections and cell culture.
