Product Overview

Description

This is a pegylated RNA aptamer engineered to bind with high affinity and specificity to activated coagulation Factor IX (FIXa). By inhibiting FIXa, it effectively blocks a key amplification step in the intrinsic pathway of the coagulation cascade, leading to a potent anticoagulant effect. A key feature of this agent is the availability of a specific reversal oligonucleotide, allowing for its anticoagulant activity to be precisely controlled and switched off if needed.

Target Overview

Coagulation Factor IX (FIX) is a vitamin K-dependent serine protease that plays a crucial role in the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation. It circulates in the blood as an inactive zymogen. Upon activation to Factor IXa (FIXa), it complexes with its cofactor, Factor VIIIa, to activate Factor X. This step is essential for amplifying the generation of thrombin and forming a stable blood clot. Genetic deficiency of Factor IX leads to the bleeding disorder hemophilia B, highlighting its importance in hemostasis.
