Target Overview

Coagulation Factor V (FV) is a large glycoprotein that circulates in the blood as an inactive procofactor. During the process of blood coagulation, it is proteolytically cleaved and activated by thrombin to become Factor Va (FVa). FVa is not an enzyme itself but serves as a crucial non-enzymatic cofactor for the enzyme Factor Xa. Together, FVa and FXa assemble on a phospholipid surface to form the prothrombinase complex. This complex is extraordinarily efficient, accelerating the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin by over 300,000-fold, thus playing an indispensable role in amplifying the clotting cascade.
