Description
Mouse anti-interleukin-1 beta. The protein encoded by IL1B is a member of the interleukin-1 cytokine family. This cytokine is produced by activated macrophages in the form of original protein, which is proteolyzed by caspase 1 (CASP1/ICE) into its active form. This cytokine is an important mediator of inflammatory response and participates in a variety of cell activities, including cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. It was found that this cytokine induces cyclooxygenase 2 (PTGS2/COX2) in the central nervous system (CNS) to contribute to inflammatory pain hypersensitivity. IL1B and 8 other interleukin 1 family genes form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 2 (provided by RefSeq, July 2008).
