Target Overview

Tissue Factor Pathway Inhibitor (TFPI) is a Kunitz-type serine protease inhibitor and the primary regulator of the extrinsic pathway of blood coagulation. Its main function is to act as a natural anticoagulant by directly inhibiting activated Factor X (FXa) and, in a FXa-dependent manner, inhibiting the Factor VIIa-Tissue Factor complex. This dual inhibition provides a critical feedback loop that prevents runaway clot formation (thrombosis) after the initial hemostatic response to vessel injury.
