Description

Isopentanolone (3α-hydroxy-5α-pregnan-20-one) is a neurosteroid that exists in the blood and brain. Allopregnanolone is made from progesterone, which is converted to 5α-dihydroprogesterone by type I 5α-reductase. Allopregnanolone contributes to neurogenesis and has been found to reverse neuronal proliferation defects and cognitive defects in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease. It has also been shown that isopentanolone can restore function in a mouse model of Parkinson's disease and improve the behavioral problems of post-traumatic stress disorder.
