Product Overview

Description

Icilin is an agonist of TRPM8 and TRPA1. TRPM8 is a known cold sensor that is thought to become active below 25-28°C; however, a recent study reported that the reaction temperature is dependent on the external temperature. TRPM8 is also activated by menthol. TRPA1 was first reported as a channel activated by cold stimulation below 17°C. In addition to cold stimuli, this channel is also activated by allyl isothiocyanate and cinnamaldehyde (the active constituents of mustard and cinnamon, respectively) and is thought to be involved in pain transmission. This channel has also been reported to be involved in the regulation of respiration.
