inquiryDescription
Galectins are a family of β-galactoside-binding proteins, which are involved in regulating cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. Galectin-3 binding protein has been found to be elevated in the serum of cancer patients and in the serum of patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It seems to be related to the immune response related to the cytotoxicity of natural killer (NK) and lymphokine activated killer (LAK) cells. Using fluorescence in situ hybridization, the full-length 90K cDNA has been mapped to chromosome 17q25. The natural protein specifically binds to a lectin associated with human macrophages called Mac-2, and also binds to galectin-1 (provided by RefSeq, July 2008).
The mouse anti-human galectin-3 binding protein antibody can detect a band of 75 kDa. The antibody has been extensively validated by Western blot using whole cell lysates.
