Description

Glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) has been shown to promote the survival and differentiation of dopaminergic neurons in culture, and to prevent motor neuron apoptosis induced by axotomy. The encoded protein is processed into a mature secreted form that exists as a homodimer. The mature form of the protein is the ligand for the proto-oncogene product of RET (originally during transfection). In addition to the transcript that encodes GDNF, two other alternative transcripts that encode unique proteins are described, called astrocyte-derived trophic factors. The mutation of this gene may be related to Hearst Spring's disease. Our GDNF ELISA kit is a sandwich ELISA assay that can quantitatively measure human GDNF in serum, plasma and cell culture supernatant within 90 minutes. The density of the color is directly proportional to the amount of human GDNF captured from the sample.
