Overview of Addiction Drug Discovery
Drug addiction is a chronic neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by loss of control over drug seeking and drug use, which imposes a severe socioeconomic burden. The occurrence of addiction is a complex process involving multiple factors such as environmental and genetic factors. An addict's dependence on a specific substance can be physical or psychological. Research has found that dysfunctional reward mechanisms are strongly associated with addiction. Although research on drug addiction has advanced over the past few years, the etiology and pathophysiology of drug addiction remain largely unknown, and there is still an urgent need for effective drug therapy.
