LRRK2 Antibodies

The PARK8 gene encodes leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2), a member of the ROCO protein family that includes multidomain proteins. It is distinguished by the presence of a Ras protein complex domain of 200-250 amino acids, followed by a 300-400 amino acid domain known as the Roc (COR) C terminus. Mutations in LRRK2 are risk factors for and causes of sporadic and familial Parkinson's disease (PD). LRRK2 is one of the major drug targets for PD. Researchers will be able to observe how this protein works inside cells and more quickly determine how potential drugs affect its function. This will accelerate drug discovery and provide new hope for people with this debilitating disease.

LRRK2 Overview

Ankryin repeat region, leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domain, kinase domain, DFG-like motif, RAS domain, GTPase domain, mlk-like domain, and WD40 domain are the features of the LRRK2 protein. LRRK2 mutations are more prevalent in familial PD than in other genes. In addition, the age of onset, course of the disease, and motor symptoms of LRRK2-associated PD are frequently similar to those of sporadic PD.

Most monogenic and sporadic PDs are similar to LRRK2-associated PD in terms of their proposed molecular pathways and degenerative characteristics. Changes in vesicle trafficking and cytoskeletal dynamics, autophagy and lysosomal degradation, neurotransmission, mitochondrial function, immunological and microglial responses are among the functional abnormalities linked to LRRK2 mutations.
