Product Overview

Description

Monoamine oxidase (MAO, EC 1.4.3.4) is a class of enzymes that can oxidize a variety of endogenous primary amines. Based on their substrate, inhibitor specificity and tissue localization, two isoforms have been identified, MAO-A and MAO-B. MAO-B can oxidize primary amines, but compared with MAO-A, the list of specific substrates (ie benzylamine, phenethylamine) is limited. MAO-B is a mitochondrial binding enzyme, which is ubiquitously expressed throughout the brain and other tissues. Many studies have studied it, including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and tobacco addiction. Certain MAO-B inhibitors (such as selegiline and rasagiline) have been used to treat patients with Parkinson's disease, but their benefits are considered to be quite limited. Our MAO-B inhibitor screening kit provides a fast, simple, sensitive and reliable test method, suitable for high-throughput screening of MAO-B inhibitors. The measurement is based on the fluorescence detection of H2O2, which is one of the by-products produced during the oxidative deamination of MAO substrates.
