Description
Bcl-2 is a conservative anti-apoptotic protein, which plays an important role in normal immunity. It forms homodimers or heterodimers with other members of the Bcl-2 family. This protein regulates cell apoptosis by controlling mitochondrial fusion and fission. It has been shown that phosphorylation of Bcl-2 can enhance activity in response to signals mediated by extracellular growth factors. Bcl-2 is also regulated by IRES, miR-15a, miR-16-1 and RNA-BP nucleolin. Bcl-2 chromosome 18q21.3 translocation and overexpression are often observed in follicular lymphoma and some diffuse large B-cell lymphomas.
