Product Overview

Description

Inhibitors are a family of regulators of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling. The retina contains a family member, visual inhibitor protein or inhibitor protein 1, which is located in the outer segment of the rod and binds to phosphorylated rhodopsin and regulates its activity. Other members of the inhibitor family are trypsin, β-arrestin 1 (also known as inhibitor 2), and β-arrestin 2. Inhibitor protein 1 protein is also called S-antigen, because it was originally discovered because autoantibodies against this protein were discovered in experiments, allergic uveitis, an animal model of human uveitis (1). A series of further studies revealed the details of how proteins function in the retina (2-4).
