Description
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is the peroxidase most abundantly expressed in neutrophils (EC 1.11.1.7). It is a lysosomal protein stored in the eosinophilic granules of neutrophils. MPO contains heme pigment, which causes secretions rich in neutrophils (such as pus and some forms of mucus) to appear green. MPO catalyzes the formation of hypochlorous acid (HClO) from hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) and chloride ions (Cl- or the equivalent of non-chlorine halide). MPO also uses hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant to oxidize tyrosine to tyrosine groups. In our MPO analysis kit, the HClO produced by H 2 O 2 and Cl- reacts with taurine to form taurine chloramine, which is then reacted with the TNB2-probe to eliminate the color (λ = 412 nm). This kit provides a fast, simple, sensitive and reliable test method, suitable for high-throughput activity analysis of MPO. This kit can be used to detect MPO as low as 0.05 mU per well.
