Product Overview

Description

MAP-τ is a microtubule-associated protein or a low molecular weight member of the MAP family. Several serious human diseases are associated with the accumulation of MAP-τ (often called tau protein), the most notable being the neurofibrillary tangles of Alzheimer's disease. The accumulation of tau in neurons is also a feature of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, Pick's disease and several other neurodegenerative diseases. These diseases are collectively referred to as "taupathies". A single mammalian tau gene produces at least 9 different proteins through alternate transcription. In the central nervous system, 6 isoforms in the range of 48-67kDa determined by SDS-PAGE dominate, but the larger isoforms are mainly found in the peripheral nervous system.
