CD63 is a member of the tetraspanin superfamily, a group of cell surface proteins that organize signaling complexes within the cell membrane. It is abundantly present on the membranes of late endosomes and lysosomes and is famously enriched on the surface of extracellular vesicles, particularly exosomes, making it a gold-standard biomarker for their detection and isolation.
