Superoxide Dismutase 1 (SOD1) is a vital antioxidant enzyme that is abundant in the cytoplasm of most cells. Its primary physiological role is to protect the cell from oxidative damage by catalyzing the conversion of toxic superoxide radicals into molecular oxygen and hydrogen peroxide.
