Description
Gelatin is a mixture of peptides and proteins, produced by the partial hydrolysis of collagen extracted from animal skin and bones. Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) is required for mouse ES cells that grow on the gelatin layer as an extracellular matrix (for support). Human ES/iPS cells grow on the feeder layer of mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEF), and the plates need to be pretreated with gelatin.
