Description

The ability to isolate synaptosomes from neuronal tissue/cultured cells is critical for understanding the mechanisms of neurological diseases. Synaptosomes contain synaptic vesicles with a diameter of 80-200 nm that play an important role in signal transmission. Traditionally, synaptosomes are isolated by density ultracentrifugation. This process is relatively tedious and time-consuming. Usually larger amounts of starting material are required. The Synaptosome Isolation Kit provides a simple and fast method for isolating synaptosomes from fresh/frozen neuronal tissue/cultured cells.

Features

This protocol can be completed in less than 1 hour without the use of a Dounce homogenizer and ultracentrifugation. The amount of starting material required (10-50 mg of tissue) is a fraction of that required by traditional methods. The buffer used is detergent-free and the synaptosome-associated protein is isolated in its native form.
