Product Overview

Description

A comprehensive kit for the targeted knockdown of the human Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP) gene, which is central to Alzheimer's disease pathology. The set includes three validated shRNA plasmid vectors, each designed to target a unique site on the APP mRNA for robust gene silencing, accompanied by a non-targeting scrambled shRNA plasmid as a negative control. It is an ideal system for studying APP's physiological roles and its processing into amyloid peptides.

Target Overview

Amyloid Beta Precursor Protein (APP) is a single-pass transmembrane protein expressed in many tissues but is concentrated in the synapses of neurons. While its precise physiological functions are still under investigation, it is known to be involved in synaptic plasticity and neural development. APP is most notable for its central role in Alzheimer's disease. It can be sequentially cleaved by secretase enzymes, and one of these processing pathways generates Amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides. The misfolding and aggregation of these Aβ peptides into amyloid plaques is a primary pathological hallmark of Alzheimer's disease, making APP a critical target for diagnostic and therapeutic research.
