The human SCN8A gene encodes the pore-forming subunit of Nav1.6, which is a voltage-gated sodium channel expressed in the central and peripheral nervous systems.Mouse orthologous mutations cause ataxia and other movement disorders.The Nav1.6 channel is a therapeutic target for multiple sclerosis and epileptic seizures.
