Serotonin or 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) is a monoamine neurotransmitter. Serotonin is biochemically derived from tryptophan and is mainly found in the gastrointestinal (GI tract), platelets and central nervous system (CNS) of animals (including humans). It is generally regarded as a contributor to happiness and well-being.
