Description
Granular Blue (GB) is a fluorescent retrograde tracer used in experimental studies of the peripheral nervous system to determine the number and source of neurons projected to a specific area. Retrograde tracking technology allows detailed evaluation of neuron connections from individual neuron populations to various targets in the entire nervous system. These technologies allow "mapping" the connections between neurons in specific structures (such as the eyes) and target neurons in the brain.

In rats, GB is effectively transported over long distances, producing blue fluorescent labels of neuronal cytoplasm in the cell body and proximal dendrites. It also produces an accumulation of silver-blues in the cytoplasm.
