Product Overview

Description

A comprehensive kit for the targeted suppression of the Neurexin (e.g., NRXN1) gene family, essential presynaptic cell adhesion molecules. The set includes three validated shRNA plasmid vectors targeting a specific Neurexin isoform, plus a non-targeting scrambled shRNA plasmid as a negative control. It is a key tool for studying how Neurexin loss, a risk factor for autism, disrupts synapse formation.

Target Overview

Chromodomain-helicase-DNA-binding protein 8 (CHD8) is an ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling enzyme that plays a fundamental role in regulating gene expression. By using the energy from ATP hydrolysis, it alters the structure of chromatin, which is the complex of DNA and proteins within the nucleus. This remodeling activity controls the accessibility of DNA to the transcriptional machinery, thereby turning genes on or off. CHD8 is critically important during early brain development. Its significance is underscored by strong genetic evidence identifying disruptive, loss-of-function mutations in the CHD8 gene as one of the most common high-confidence risk factors for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
