Product Overview

Description

Tau is a microtubule binding protein that stabilizes microtubules in growing axons. It was found that Tau is hyperphosphorylated in paired spiral filaments (PHF), which is the main fibrous component of neurofibrillary disease associated with Alzheimer's disease. The hyperphosphorylation of Tau is considered to be a key event leading to the assembly of PHF. Six Tau protein isoforms have been identified, all of which are phosphorylated by GSK3. This indicates that the misdirection of GSK3 signal transduction may lead to the onset of Alzheimer's disease.
