Description
The human KCNA5 gene encodes the pore-forming subunit of Kv1.5 (a voltage-gated potassium channel).KCNA5 mutations are associated with a hereditary form of atrial fibrillation.The Kv1.5 channel is widely expressed in the heart, colon, kidney, vascular smooth muscle and central nervous system, and is a therapeutic target for atrial fibrillation, pulmonary hypertension, cancer and multiple sclerosis.
