Description
An immortalized microglia cell line (IMG) isolated from the brain of an adult mouse. Microglia have similar functions to macrophages and are considered to be the main immune cells of the central nervous system (CNS). They monitor their microenvironment and are activated when anomalous and/or offensive signals are detected. Activated microglia have been found in inflammatory diseases such as brain/spinal cord injury, ischemic stroke, infection and neurodegenerative diseases. Recent findings indicate that microglia also participate in learning and memory by regulating synaptic plasticity.
